My Swiss Financial Journey 💰

Hallo Money Essence’s readers!

How I Discovered the True Value of Saving After Moving to Switzerland

I moved from Poland to Switzerland 3 years ago, and that's when I started thinking about my finances. ✈️ Saving money in Poland wasn't one of my highest priorities - it existed, but it was saving for the sake of saving, without a specific goal. 🤔

Back in Poland, I was already keeping a household budget, but only after many years did I realize that it was basically just bookkeeping, not strategic money management. 📊

My Financial Awakening in Switzerland

I started making real changes – checking my expenses regularly, dedicating 15 minutes a day to my finances, and actively responding to market shifts.

Thanks to this routine, I can:

  • create budget surpluses 💸
  • react quickly to changes,
  • and build lasting financial security. 🛡️

One of my biggest inspirations was Marcin Iwuć, whose content helped me build my first emergency fund.

The Freedom Budget – My Personal System

At some point, I realized I wanted more than just tracking expenses. That’s how I created my own system – the Freedom Budget.

👉 It helps me:

  • set financial goals,
  • manage money more effectively,
  • and prepare for uncertain times.

On this blog, I’ll show you how you can also design your own path toward financial independence.

From Emergency Fund to the 3a Pillar 🏦

What came next? I discovered that I could also save through the third pillar (3a) of the Swiss pension system! 🏦

That’s when things really took off – especially when I realized I could also calculate and benefit from tax returns. 📈 As a Polish expat in Switzerland, this was a true game changer!

Why I Write This Blog 🤷‍♀️

While reading Polish and American finance blogs, I noticed that many solutions… simply don’t work in Switzerland.

👉 For example:

  • no inflation-linked bonds,
  • limited ETF options within pillar 3a.

These things don't exist here 😄 - or maybe I just don't know about them?

That’s exactly why I started this blog – to share my real-life experience of managing money as an expat in Switzerland. I write the way I’d talk to a friend: openly, simply, and practically. And with your feedback, it becomes a true win-win. 🤝

Who Am I? A Quick Snapshot 👩‍💼

  1. I earn up to 100k CHF a year 💼
  2. I’ve never had debts – unless you count €10 I never paid back for a beer 10 years ago (yes, I still think about it 😅)
  3. I don’t own property yet 🏠
  4. I live in Switzerland with my partner ❤️
